An interesting article in Packaging news (18.11.15) debating biodegradable film and raising the notion that it may make more environmental sense to incinerate plastic bags for energy. It discusses the fragments left by degradable film, the lack of infrastructure in this country to enable recycling (which it argues is potentially the most sensible of all options) and the fact that we could incinerate to produce energy.
“Around 100,000 plastic bags would generate the same energy as 1000kg of oil or 1400kg of coal”
