It was the Plastic Packaging Tax, introduced by the UK Government in April 2022. The tax applies to plastic packaging manufactured in, or imported into the UK where the plastic used in its manufacture contains less than 30% recycled plastic. The aim is to encourage customers to buy plastic with a percentage of recycled content in it; thus encouraging better collection of plastic waste and more recycling.
Templecoombe Ltd took the lead early on by defaulting to recycled content film for its printed plastic bags. The more the recycled content in the plastic the less ‘perfect’ the film and print, however over time this has become the ‘norm’ and everyone generally accepts this is a step we have to take and a compromise we have to make; for sustainability. Our polythene products contain between 30-80 percent recycled content.
