In an attempt to keep up with the fast-moving and ever-changing plastics industry, the US based Society of Plastics Inc. (SPI) has announced it is to develop an iPad application to help businesses and their employees highlight the benefits of plastics to potential customers, and emphasize the positive impact the industry has on the US economy.
The ‘Plastics Champion Application’ will provide iPad users with immediate access to the latest plastics news, facts, figures and statistics, and will cover everything from the much talked about plastic carrier bag issue, to larger and more complex trade, energy and economic impact studies.
Designed to keep companies one-step ahead and up-to-date on current developments, the mobile application is sure to be popular with both technicians and sales/promotions staff working within the plastics industry, who will be able to access detailed information when out of office, directly from their iPad.
Apple themselves are committed to lowering the company’s environmental footprint by using recycled plastics, recycled paper, biopolymers, and vegetable based inks in their products, leading many to believe that the Plastics Champion application will help other companies follow suit.
At a time when plastic manufacturers across the world attempt to become more sustainable, and reduce the negative impact that some plastics have on the environment, the timing of this new application could not be better, and if it proves successful in the US, it will be just a matter of time before it reaches our shores.
A web-based version of the new iPad application is expected to be ready sometime this autumn, and SPI hope that all 900,000plus workers in the US plastics industry will enjoy the benefits of this modern and up-to-date tool.
