Templecoombe Ltd will be exhibiting at this year’s Land & Leisure Tourism Show and Farm Businness Innovation, where we’ll be talking to businesses looking at new ways to use their land, from farm shops and cafés to visitor attractions and rural retail.
We’re also pleased to be supplying the official show bags for the event.
What makes the show bags different?
The bags are made using PaperWise paper, which is paper produced from agricultural waste rather than wood from trees.
PaperWise uses the leaves and stems left over after crops such as corn, wheat, rice and sugar cane have been harvested. This makes it an interesting alternative to traditional paper and fits particularly well with a show focused on agriculture, land and rural businesses.
According to independent research carried out by IVAM, the material has a lower environmental impact than both standard tree-based paper and recycled paper, over the life cycle when looking at CO2 emissions.
We think it will be interesting to see the bags being used at the show and to talk to visitors about some of the different paper options now available for printed packaging.
What are the pros and cons of Agricultural Waste Paper?
There is a lot of sense and potential for this paper. Here’s why?
- It is made from a waste product; trees take years to grow.
- In studies so far it has been declared to be between 29% and 47% better for the environment; looking at CO2 emissions over the life cycle
- It can be recycled around seven times, the same as tree paper and is compatable, performing as well as tree paper, in the recycling paper stream
Why wouldn’t all paper be made from Agricultural Waste?
- This is still quite new and currently there isn’t enough supply or infastructure in Europe so most of the agricultural waste comes from India and South America
- It is not as strong as paper made from trees. In most instances it is strong enough, with a 4-5kg guide, however some purposes will need increased durability.
Looking for printed bags for a farm shop or café?
PaperWise is just one of the materials we can supply. We produce printed paper bags for all sorts of businesses, and the right choice will depend on how the bags are going to be used, the quantity required and your budget.
For example, we supply twisted and flat handle paper bags for farm shops, delis and gift shops, as well as smaller counter and bakery bags for cafés and food outlets.
We can also supply recycled and kraft paper options, along with more premium bags where the packaging needs to have a particular look and feel.
If you’re planning a new farm shop, café or other rural business, it’s worth thinking about your bags early on. The size, paper, handles, print and quantity can all make a difference to the final price.
