PP carrier bags are growing in popularity as both retailers and consumers look for a practical alternative to the ‘single use’ polythene bag. A strong and flexible solution for shoppers, PP bags are both recyclable and reusable due to the synthetic plastic polymer they are made from called Polypropylene, and as such, they are ideal solution for those looking for an eco-friendly shopping bag.

Polypropylene is a superior material that has a low density and high resistance. Non-toxic and degradable, it is environmentally friendly, and as it can withstand repeated increases and decreases in weight without losing structure, it is the perfect material for making reusable carrier bags.

PP carrier bags are available woven or non-woven. The differences between the two bags are few, with the main differences being the technical strength of the fabric, and the manufacturing costs. Woven PP carrier bags are made, as the name would suggest, by weaving or knitting the polypropylene fibres together. This process creates an exceptionally strong bag suitable for a variety of different uses, but they can cost more to produce than the alternatives. Woven PP carrier bags are recyclable, although the process is not as simple as with non-woven bags.

Non-woven PP bags are easier to manufacture than woven bags, and therefore cost less to produce. Made of spun bonded Polypropylene, non-woven PP carrier bags feel and look like cloth bags, and as they are both flexible and lightweight, they fold away conveniently to fit in a handbag or pocket. 100% reusable and recyclable, non-woven bags are ideal for everyday use, and are therefore considered to be more environmentally friendly than other types of carrier bags.

Both woven and non-woven PP carrier bags are available in a variety of different colours, and as they print exceptionally well, they can be branded in much the same way as plastic and paper carrier bags.
