There has been a lot of discussion around the carrier bag tax imposed in Wales and soon to be in Northern Ireland, there are many reasons why the tax is a positive step, including the impact it has already had on carrier bag usage but it is not always practical to re-use your old bags.

When food shopping it is easy to re-use your previous carrier bags but I don’t think anyone would want to place their brand new shirt or dress in an old carrier bag which has been used several times to carry your food shopping.

Below is a video interview with Environment Minister Jane Davidson who talks about the tax in more detail.

What is your opinion of the minimum charge of 5p for single use carrier bags, would you welcome the charge or would you be against it?
